WALKERSVILLE'S Dan Leatherman had an outstanding year as a relief pitcher with the Hagerstown Suns and his season is not over. The right-hander was called up to Potomac for the Carolina League playoffs.
It didn't take him long to see his first action. He pitched the final four innings and got the win as the Nationals beat Wilmington 2-1 in 15 innings in the first game of the Northern Division Playoffs last Wednesday. Leatherman -- who was signed by the Nationals after being released by the Minnesota Twins organization during spring training -- allowed just two hits, struck out two and didn't walk a batter. Potomac swept Wilmington and will next play in the Mills Cup Playoffs.
At Hagerstown, Leatherman was 1-2 with a 2.68 ERA in 26 games. He had five saves.
